Our Practice’s History
Tampa Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group was founded in 1949 by Dr. Donald Hedrick, who had trained at Detroit’s prestigious Henry Ford Hospital. At that time, the practice was located on Lafayette Street in downtown Tampa (we moved to our current location on South Howard Avenue in 1963).
Over the next few decades, Tampa Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group expanded and added more doctors to the practice. In 1970, Dr. James Murphy took over the group and ran it until he retired in 2001. His son, Dr. Daniel Murphy—a board-certified orthopaedic sports medicine surgeon—joined the practice in 1998 and continues to manage it. In 2008, Dr. Arnold Ramirez—a board-certified sports medicine doctor—became a member of the practice’s medical team.
What We Do
Throughout our many years in practice, Tampa Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group has remained at the forefront of both surgical and nonsurgical orthopaedic treatments. Drs. Murphy and Ramirez expertly oversee the clinic’s wide array of services, which range from physical therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections to sports medicine, stem cell therapy, joint replacements, and much more.
